Middle East and Asia
Transfield Services is committed to building a strong market presence in the Middle East and Asia region. This is evidenced by the establishment of a new regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi with a resident Chief Executive, Philip Wratt, and a renewed focus on business development. This will assist in establishing strong country-specific partnerships and provide the capabilities to pursue and secure the significant pipeline of opportunities that exist in the region.
Revenue from our wholly-owned operations decreased 34 per cent to $72.5 million, impacted by the absence of one-off contracts that were performed during the previous year. Including income from our joint ventures, revenue decreased 13.5 per cent to $129 million. Continued depressed economic conditions also slowed investment by clients in sustaining capital works, such as shutdowns, limiting opportunities to one-off contracts during the period.
Resources and Industrial
During the year, the Transfield Services-WorleyParsons joint venture started a seven-year contract with Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. at its Malampaya gas facility. The contract, valued at approximately A$76 million, includes a three-year extension option.
Intergulf General Contracting LLC, which provides services in civil construction, civil repair works and concrete rehabilitation, continues to grow with new contract wins. This has provided strong bottom-line contribution to the region from both oil and gas, and civil-related industries in the United Arab Emirates.
Transfield Services developed a new cooperative agreement with industrial services company Cape PLC to deliver integrated maintenance services in the Middle East. The agreement combines Transfield Services’ expertise in asset management, shutdowns and integrated maintenance services and Cape PLC’s strength in industrial services.
Together, the companies have the capability to deliver dependable, quality and cost-efficient services to the resources and industrial sector in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
