Our Business Relationships

Australian Rail Track Corporation, South Australia

Transfield Services maintains all the track and civil infrastructure assets of the Australian Rail Track Corporation on the South Australian interstate lines that extend into Western Australia and New South Wales. The lines stretch from Cootamundra to Port Augusta, Wolseley (on the Victorian border) through Adelaide, Port Augusta, Whyalla and Kalgoorlie.

Transfield Services have worked with the ARTC to deliver improvements in maintenance costs and safety, resulting in a decline in the percentage of track under speed restriction. In addition, track maintenance costs have been reduced significantly.

The alliance contract with ARTC involves routine and preventive maintenance and upgrading of over 2,700 kilometres of standard gauge track and associated infrastructure.

Transfield Services workforce and strategic rail plant and equipment are located across South Australia and Western Australia. Our ability to respond quickly to system failure is an integral component of the highly efficient services provided to ARTC.

Genesee & Wyoming Australia and OneSteel, South Australia

Transfield Services maintain the South Australian rail network of Genesee & Wyoming Australia. Major locations for the work include Eyre Peninsula, Murraylands and the Mid-North.

Transfield Services provides maintenance services and capital works for railway civil, track and signals infrastructure within the OneSteel, Whyalla Steelworks and rail tracks running from the iron ore mines to the steelworks.

Collectively, over 1,000 kilometres of narrow, broad and standard gauge lines are maintained by Transfield Services for these two clients. Transfield Services provide a technical support team and an integrated Rail Maintenance Management System including work order management, resource planning, asset management, cost control and client system interaction.

As part of the priority we place on industry best practice, a business specific Management System that includes the key performance drivers of quality, health, safety and environment is provided as
part of our service.

Yarra Trams, Melbourne, Victoria

In partnership with the Victorian State Government, TransdevTSL operates and maintains Melbourne’s entire tram network, which is the third largest in the world with 249 kilometres of double track and 494 trams.

The joint venture’s achievements include the introduction of 95 low-floor trams, 180 wheelchair accessible platform stops, electronic passenger information screens, ‘real-time’ service information and a new Fleet Operations Centre. Yarra Trams has 27 major tram routes and 1,880 employees, including 1,100 drivers based at eight metropolitan depots.

Passengers now benefit from reduced journey times and improved service frequency due to improved traffic management, installation of separation kerbing and new platform tram stops.

Passenger Information Display units (PIDS) provide real-time tram arrival information to customers. PIDS have a visual display and an audio option to provide tram arrival information to vision impaired customers and are installed at 124 tram stops.

Another innovation by Yarra Trams was the introduction of the tramTRACKER service which provides real-time tram arrival information by phone, voice or SMS.

Transfield Services designed, built and operates the painting facility at the East Preston tram depot in Melbourne where Yarra Trams’ entire fleet is painted.
