NEW ZEALAND
Transit New Zealand
Transfield Services maintains state highways for Transit New Zealand in the West Waikato and North Auckland regions under ten-year performance-specified maintenance contracts. We are committed to delivering asset management services to improve the performance and reliability of assets and ultimately optimising maintenance costs.
Transfield Services provides network management and physical works services including the maintenance of pavements, general corridor maintenance, local authority and utility liaison. We also provide emergency response services to incidents and we are a direct point of contact for the community on behalf of Transit New Zealand. We utilise the latest asset management practices and technologies, including Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS).
Transfield Services also operates and maintains the Lyttelton Tunnel, linking the Port of Lyttelton with Christchurch City. This contract includes control centre management, emergency response services and maintenance of all assets associated with the tunnel.
The Network Management Operations in Auckland provides an essential service to drivers on Auckland’s motorway and arterial road system. Transfield Services operates the system and works closely with Transit New Zealand to develop sustainable road solutions. Our work includes traffic engineering services; closed circuit television surveillance; traffic signal management on both state highways and local roads and traffic management on behalf of various authorities.
We also operate the variable message boards, which display real-time speed limit changes to reflect current road and traffic conditions. Traffic conditions are monitored using closed-circuit television technology. Transfield Services also operates and maintains moveable lane barriers on the Auckland Harbour Bridge to aid smooth traffic flow during peak travel times.
Transfield Services is currently installing the new traffic management system on Auckland’s motorway network. The new system will include the installation of traffic signals at on-ramps to the network to help improve traffic flow during peak periods by managing the rate at which vehicles enter the motorway network. The work includes the installation of traffic lights on all on-ramps, electronic sensors in the road, ramp widening where appropriate and integrating ramp signalling with existing traffic management systems.
Transfield Services provides routine maintenance services to the Franklin District Council’s road network, including road pavement, drainage structures and bridges.
