Loy Yang Power Announces Major Maintenance Contract

Loy Yang Power announced today that Transfield Worley Power Services (TWPS) had been selected to provide mine and power station maintenance services for its operations near Traralgon, Victoria.
Loy Yang Power Chief Executive, Ian Nethercote, said the five year contract with a total value of approximately AUD185 million, was scheduled to commence on 1 July 2010.
Mr Nethercote said a number of high quality tenders were received for the contract and the decision to award the contract to TWPS followed an extensive tender review process.
Mr Nethercote said Loy Yang Power was looking forward to working with TWPS: “We expect that the new contract will continue to build on the existing high quality maintenance practices at Loy Yang Power and ensure that best practice maintenance continues to deliver world class plant reliability and availability in a safe and cost effective manner.”
Transfield Services CEO Australia and New Zealand, Bruce James, said: “TWPS has a strong track record in delivering end-to-end engineering, asset management and maintenance services to the power sector.
“TWPS is looking forward to working with Loy Yang Power in a long term relationship to deliver the benefits of Transfield Services’ and WorleyParsons’ global experience and proven systems and processes.”

This contract demonstrates the significant capabilities of the TWPS joint venture to provide asset services to the power industry.”
TWPS will work closely with Silcar in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition to the new contract.
Loy Yang Power is the operator of the largest power station in Victoria and Australia’s largest open cut brown coal mine. Loy Yang Power was privatised in May 1997 as part of the Victorian Government's privatisation strategy. In April 2004, Loy Yang Power was purchased by the Great Energy Alliance Corporation (GEAC). GEAC consists of the following shareholders – AGL (32.5%), Tokyo Electric Power Company (32.5%), Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund (14%), Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) Superannuation Fund (12.8%), Westscheme (5.7%) and Statewide Super (2.5%).
Transfield Worley Power Services (TWPS) is a joint venture between major public Australian companies Transfield Services Ltd (TSE) and Worley Parsons Ltd (WP). TWPS provides maintenance services to a number of Power stations throughout Australia. Also, TSE provides maintenance services to a range of power and industrial businesses worldwide. WP provides engineering and technical services to a range of power and industrial businesses worldwide. These companies are separate from the Transfield Infrastructure Fund, which is a part-owner of GEAC and the LYP asset.
