Transfield Foundation to fund innovation pioneers
17 November 2010
The Transfield Foundation, created by Transfield Holdings and Transfield Services to expand both companies' longstanding philanthropic activities, today announced support for three innovative community organisations. It is also welcoming expressions of interest from organisations that conduct research in science and technology that will lead to innovation in resource management. This funding area builds on Transfield’s engineering heritage and its investments in renewable energy infrastructure
The legacy of Transfield Founder and arts philanthropy pioneer, Franco Belgiorno-Nettis, continues through the Transfield Foundation’s support of outstanding arts organisations and in particular the Biennale of Sydney and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Transfield Services’ leadership in Indigenous Reconciliation in Australia underpins the Foundation’s support for employment and education and today three-year grants will be awarded to the following organisations:
- Many Rivers Opportunities provides loans to micro and small businesses that would not ordinarily have access to commercial banking arrangements, with a key focus on Indigenous individuals in regional and rural communities.
- Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience provides an out-of-school mentoring program for Indigenous secondary students who work with trained mentors selected from the mainstream university student population.
- The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, self esteem, life skills and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men.
The Transfield Foundation Chairman, Catherine Baldwin, is also Executive Director of Bangarra and the Chairman of the national peak body, Young People and the Arts Australia, said today: “We’re charting new territory by funding research that promotes innovation in resource management. We now welcome candidates that will use science and technology to uncover new ways to produce renewable energy or better use natural resources.”
