Transfield Services Canadian joint venture wins safety award
Friday, 12 March 2010Transfield Services' Canadian team, FT Services, has received the Occupational Health and Safety Award of the Year from the Alberta Petro-Chemical Safety Council after achieving zero lost time injuries since the company began operations in 2007.
FT Services demonstrated the best safety performance amongst peer-group member companies, working for more than two million work hours without a single lost-time injury during 2009.
Alberta Petro-Chemical Safety Council Chair, Mr Robert Day, said today: "The health and safety performance of companies within the Petro-Chemical Industry is based on effective preplanning, through risk assessments and competent people doing their best every day."
FT Services, a joint venture between Transfield Services and Flint Energy Services, recently achieved 13 million hours without a single lost time injury.
Transfield Services, Managing Director and CEO, Dr Peter Goode, said today: “Safety is Transfield Services highest priority. In 2009, we reduced our lost time injury frequency rate by 28 per cent to 1.62 injuries per million hours worked.”
“Between 2004 and 2009 we decreased our lost time injury frequency rate by 43 per cent, despite a 329 per cent increase in employee numbers,” he said.
Other recent safety highlights include:
- Abu Dhabi subsidiary, Transfield Emdad Services LLC and Intergulf General Contracting LLC, completed 12 years and 14 million hours without a Lost Time Injury in August 2009
- Carlton United Breweries contract in Queensland reached more than 10 years LTI free, and
- Gippsland Water and Brisbane Airport Rail Link contracts achieved more than nine years Lost Time Injury Free.
