Transfield Services constructs new rail line for OneSteel in South Australia

Transfield Services has completed the construction of a new rail line for OneSteel’s mine operations at Iron Knight near Whyalla, South Australia. The project’s contract value was AUD2 million.
The four-month project involved the construction and commissioning of four kilometres of new track, three new turnouts, an automated signalling system and a train wash facility. The project was completed on time and on budget.
Transfield Services’ CEO Australia and New Zealand, Mr Bruce James, said today: “This project is a clear demonstration of our capabilities in rail infrastructure development, an area in which the federal government recently earmarked to invest almost AUD1 billion in 2010 and 2011.”
Transfield Services will also provide ongoing maintenance services for the rail line under its asset management contract with Genesee and Wyoming Australia (GWA). GWA operate and manage OneSteel’s rail infrastructure.
