Safety Management System
We have developed a system that is underpinned by a rigorous hazard identification and risk assessment processes. Individual elements of the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System revolve around the four steps of planning, implementation, review and improvement.
Planning
The HSE Management System is driven by a Hazard Register in the planning stage which breaks the scope of work into core activities, then identifies the hazards associated with each activity.
This process ensures the correct application of the hierarchy of controls and defines the site requirements for procedures, training, work instructions and defines which task-related risk assessment tool, such as Job Start or Job Analysis, is appropriate.
Implementation
Communication and consultation is a critical process for the success of our safety system. Training is one of our core methods for communicating the requirements of the HSE Management System to our people.
Communication methods such as toolbox talks, team meetings, committee meetings and management meetings help us to maintain awareness of HSE performance, and applications of any new procedures and issues - if any. The communication processes are a critical element for the implementation of our safety systems.
Review
We have well-developed systems, processes and metrics for reporting personal and process safety performance that support internal performance management, promote learning and enable public reporting for review.
We have a range of tools and measures to do this, including workplace HSE inspections, audits, job observations, integrity Investigations and other monitoring processes including the Leadership Commitment Program (LCP).
We analyse and review a range of both lead and lag performance indicators to provide a quantitative measure of progress.
Improvement
Learning from our activities is seen as critical in shaping the organisational culture and supporting continuous improvement. Our Safety Management System is designed to identify and continually feedback opportunities for improvement into the systems.
