Save the Children
Transfield Services has supported Save the Children Australia since 2005, pledging at least $100,000 in financial and in-kind support every year. The money goes towards programs throughout the world that focus on the education, safety, health and well being of children and the prosperity of the communities in which they live.
Save the Children’s programs focus on supporting local businesses to ensure the long-term sustainability of communities and individuals.
Save the Children works with families to help solve the problems that children and communities face with programs aimed at achieving self-sufficiency and sustainability. Save the Children seeks to help families in developing countries reach economic security to provide a brighter future for their children. This philosophy and practice is at work in more than 110 countries. Save the Children adopts an approach that acknowledges that the problems they address – poverty, illiteracy, poor health and children’s rights – are complex and interrelated. Innovation, experience and support are key to the ongoing success of Save the Children’s programs.
Transfield Services donated more than $170,000 to Save the Children after the 2004 Tsunami hit Indonesia to help build a school. An ongoing consultation process between Save the Children, local communities and the Indonesian Government has determined that the funding will go to the Utara District, Tanah Jambo Ayee Sub- District in the village of Phanton Labu, where the need for schools is still great. The school is currently being designed and is scheduled for completion in September 2008.
